Annotated Bibliography Entry 1

The article "High-end exports can distinguish Wisconsin in China's emerging markets- for now" by Tom Still talks about why doing business in China will influence Wisconsin's economy for years to come. However, this could be in jeopardy if Wisconsin doesn't continue to make the goods that China can't make for themselves.
Oshkosh Truck Corp. made six airport fire engines for Beijing airport in time for the 2008 Olympics. Also, TomoTherapy has been successful in their trade with China. Both of these have one thing in common, they have large Chinese markets to sell their products too with great demand.

China is expected to build 50 new airports (written in 2007) which is a large investment in infrastructure which will require many of these special kinds of fire and emergency vehicles. Similarly, China has less than one piece of radiation therapy equipment for every one million people, while there are about 13 machines for every one million Americans.

This source is completely in keeping with the research I have done so far, even specifically on these companies. The tone is optimistic yet wary of Wisconsin's ability to maintain the relationship with China.
